Energy consumption for heating or cooling can be lowered by over 66%.

By maximizing building efficiency, the ExoTherm Network supports long-term decarbonization
goals.

Provides an integrated, scalable retrofit approach—unlike patchwork alternatives.

Vitalis Coolshift™ Heat Pump

The Heart of the Network

At the core of ExoTherm is the Vitalis Coolshift™ centralized heat pump—a high-performance unit that uses CO₂ (R744), a safe, natural refrigerant with near-zero global warming impact and no PFAS risk.

  • Delivers heating, cooling, and domestic hot water through one high-efficiency system with a COP of 3+, significantly reducing energy use and operating costs.

  • Engineered for reliability with stainless-steel piping, robust testing, and certifications including ASME, CSA, and PED for cross-jurisdictional compliance.

  • Proven performance with over 8,000 installations worldwide across institutional, commercial, and industrial sectors, backed by more than 30 years of experience.

  • Modular, weatherproof, and crane-ready design enables fast, low-disruption installation with standalone operation for diverse building and industrial applications.

  • Utilizes natural, climate-friendly refrigerants that align with global environmental standards and support long-term sustainability goals.

Technology Information

The ExoTherm system uses a high-performance air-source heat pump with a COP (Coefficient of Performance) of 3+, meaning it delivers over three units of heat for every unit of electricity consumed. For projects with access to geothermal sources, a ground-source option can be integrated to achieve even higher COPs. The system utilizes R744 (CO₂), a natural refrigerant that meets global climate standards, ensuring both high efficiency and environmental compliance.

ExoTherm operates on a two-channel, four-pipe system that circulates glycol through the building’s exterior piping network. This configuration enables simultaneous heating and cooling while also supporting domestic hot water (DHW) production. The glycol loop can be left exposed or enclosed in modular insulated panels, which are solar-ready or cosmetically matched to the building façade. These panels are easily removable for service access, with no need to disrupt the interior.

ExoTherm uses Grundfos pumps in a distributed pumping configuration. Instead of relying on a large central pump, the system uses smaller, localized modular pumping stations that intelligently circulate glycol based on real-time demand. This setup significantly reduces electricity consumption and improves overall system efficiency by maintaining optimal flow at lower operating pressures.
Each suite is equipped with compact fan coil units that deliver heating or cooling on demand, powered by energy-efficient EC (electronically commutated) motors. These units offer quiet operation and precise climate control, with programmable digital thermostats and optional remote access. The system ensures suite-level comfort while maintaining building-wide efficiency.

Beyond individual suites, ExoTherm supports the building’s entire mechanical ecosystem. It circulates hot or chilled glycol to the building’s ventilation system and provides centralized air conditioning for common areas. Prefabricated mechanical panels with dedicated gullies streamline HVAC piping integration and are compatible with various cladding materials for design flexibility. The panels also ensure fast installation and simple future maintenance.

Modular Building Panels

  • Prefabricated for up to 80% faster installation

  • Highly flexible finishes: glass, fiber cement, concrete, wood, and more

  • Integrates with heating and cooling lines for envelope + mechanical synergy

  • Optional solar PV skin blends performance with clean design

  • Boosts building resilience, reduces GHG emissions, and cuts maintenance costs

Envelope Upgrade Meets Solar Innovation

ExoTherm includes solar-ready modular panels to boost insulation, minimize thermal losses, and enhance aesthetics—all while enabling optional renewable energy generation from the facade.

Grundfos Circulation Pumps

Quiet, Efficient, Intelligent

Grundfos pumps ensure precise energy-efficient circulation across the ExoTherm Network. With smart sensors and adaptive logic, they respond to real-time demand, reducing energy waste and improving system performance.

  • Pre-assembled, tested, and ready to install
